Welcome to Florida. I grew up in a city, a big one, and when I was small, thought my family were farmers because our yard was almost a 1/4 of an acre!  Huge!  Other kids would want to come over to play because we had several trees, not just one.  Unheard of in our neighborhood. Fast forward a few decades and I'm selling real estate in Florida and many folks who move here bemoan the small size of their yard. Welcome to Florida. The first visit to Florida many folks have experienced revolves around Disney World.  I love all the theme parks, think the Universal is great, can't wait to visit Legoland with a two year old but, still, what about the Mighty Mouse? OK, here's the inside scoop. We all LOVE MICKEY! Seriously, our son has never been to the park, hasn't seen a cartoon and doesn't own a stuffed Mickey but, has a Mickey car which he loves.  He knew who Mickey was before we told him.  I don't know, maybe it's magic, maybe it's because Walt kind of build Florida but yes, we all love the mouse.... .....and so should you. Welcome to Florida! Many new residents are afraid of alligators in the sunshine state.  There is literally no reason to be.  Honestly, they are everywhere, lakes, rivers, golf courses, (occasionally) the ocean but they are looking for prey not people.  They are scared of human adults and provided you respect them and don't walk up on them they will stay away from you. I'm sure a number of people have heard the story about me walking up on a gator (accidentally) and pushing a woman to the ground to get away.  I would like to say much of that story is not accurate, the woman, who by the way was pregnant with twins, lost her footing and fell on her own.  And, I understand that she has already forgiven me. Welcome to Florida...... Early in the morning I'll often walk with my son down by the water.  It's a short stroll from our home and gives mom time to get stuff done and, to be honest, I love seeing the word through his eyes.  Neighborhood dogs are thrilling and an occasion seabird is a real show stopper. But, my favorite animal event is something that I never even saw until I was in my 30s; and now my one year old has witnessed it twice.  It's enough to make you believe.... in magic. my website
