Why is all New Construction So Boring?

Welcome to Florida.

When I first moved to my adopted hometown of Sarasota, I toured all sorts of new places to live.  At the end of my search I was feeling that there was only one design for a house in Florida and the builder's just adjusted square footage to accommodate different size requirements.  Of course, this all occurred when I was just a lad.

Things are different now.  Custom and semi-custom homes are being built everywhere.  Roof pools are what's in right now and I just sold a home in a neighborhood with a dedicated toddler splash park!  There are more options that you can imagine - and even some you can't.....

New residents will often not notice all that John Ringling did for our city.  I've gone to his church (built with excess circus equipment).  Had closings at the bank he founded and frequently visit the barrier islands he developed.  We all do.  But it wasn't until recently that I saw the homes he reportedly built for the little people in his employ. Should I Move to Florida?

Welcome to Paradise, or, if you are reading this at a location where the ownership of a snow shovel makes sense, see you soon. Before I moved to Florida full time, I loved to visit theme parks in the winter and enjoy the good weather.  I had literally never visited a beach in the entire state because, let's face it, everyone told me Florida was too hot int he Summer and I could never live there.  I laugh at this belief set now because, I watch the temperatures in Chicago and Boston in July and August now and realize it is often cooler here in the Summertime. So without further ado, let's go through my top 5 reasons to leave the state you are in and move to paradise. 1. What's The Difference Between a Lanai and a Loggia?

Welcome to Florida. Sometimes new arrivals will have a tough time with some terms that are unique to Florida and sometimes the concept of how we live will confuse folks.  On the West Coast of Florida for example, our Ocean is the Gulf of Mexico and the tides can be as infrequent as once a day.  For someone moving here from a fishing village on Cape Cod, that's a nearly impossible concept to comprehend. I was reminded about how things can be difficult for brand new residents when I was showing a midwestern couple and their Realtor around a new listing that we have.  As I gave a tour, I took time to showcase how the Loggia would be an ideal after dinner retreat with it's garden and lake view.  Then the Realtor for these very nice people asked me what a Loggia was.
