Should I Tint My Car Windows in Florida?

Welcome to Florida.

Regardless of where you are from you may have noticed that the majority of cars on the road in Florida have tinted windows. In fact, if you park outside for any length of time in the state you really need to get it done.  Tinting, protects the interior, allows the AC to work more efficiently and of course, makes the car look better.  All in all, there are three levels of tinting.

  • Legal - not very tinted.
  • Dark - beyond the legal limit but typically not a reason to get pulled over.
  • Very Dark - Dark with some type of sun deterrent applied even to the windshield, if noticed this alone get you pulled over and is typically reserved for felons, unpopular politicians and the occasional Realtor.
The trick is to get clear "quasi-legal" sun deterrent on the windshield.  (I'm told)
