What's The Best Dog Breed (for florida)?

Image
Welcome to Florida. When I first moved to Paradise, I thought that many dog breeds that were common in the North wouldn't work here.  I mean with our summer tempretures, the thought of a Boston Terrier and it's short "heat unfriendly" snout; I couldn't imagine that it would make any sense here.  But I was wrong.  It's actually pretty easy for dogs to adjust from cold environments to warm environments and not the other way around. A dog born and raised in Michigan who suddenly finds himself on the Suncoast adapts pretty quickly, plus with Florida law prohibiting dogs being left unattended outside, a smattering of dog walks everyday in warm temperatures is pretty good for all involved.  However, if anyone asks me what the best breed dog for a new resident who has just moved here; I would have to vote for a Florida Cur Hound. When Florida was settled these dogs were the original working dogs in the state.  They could hunt (sent or sight), protect the family

Should I Tint My Car Windows in Florida?

Image
Welcome to Florida. Regardless of where you are from you may have noticed that the majority of cars on the road in Florida have tinted windows. In fact, if you park outside for any length of time in the state you really need to get it done.  Tinting, protects the interior, allows the AC to work more efficiently and of course, makes the car look better.  All in all, there are three levels of tinting. Legal - not very tinted. Dark - beyond the legal limit but typically not a reason to get pulled over. Very Dark - Dark with some type of sun deterrent applied even to the windshield, if noticed this alone get you pulled over and is typically reserved for felons, unpopular politicians and the occasional Realtor. The trick is to get clear "quasi-legal" sun deterrent on the windshield.  (I'm told)

Why Should I Live on a Golf Course?

Image
Welcome to Florida. I grew up in New England in a house built in 1926 on a street from the 1700s.  Neither the house, nor the street were close to level or straight.  But we had some good trees and there were parks to play in, that coupled with our yard; was plenty of space.  Fast forward to my relocation to Florida and the desire to be by the beach and suddenly every lot I looked at seemed tiny - which was't a big deal until 2014. Kids need room to play. So even if you're not a golfer there are many benefits to living on a course, especially if your 3 year old likes to drive his tractor..... TPC - 10th Fairway
