Welcome to Paradise. For some reason people always seem a bit disappointed in the story about how I came to live in Sarasota.  I have noticed that, in life, sometimes the best decisions are made by accident, happenstance or error.  The fact is; I just came to Sarasota on vacation and stayed.  I still have the return ticket on my refrigerator if you want to see it.   I can't tell you how fun it can be to live in a city where you didn't grow up, especially if you are raising a child.  This way you both get to learn brand new things together.  For example, in the berg I came of age there were a number of fine eateries which I would frequent.  A few even had patios for the two months per year when you wouldn't be uncomfortable remaining outdoors for an hour.  As I have said before, things are different in Florida than the North East.  Here for example, our favorite eatery tends to be a picnic on the best beach in America.    Hard for anyone to disagree, I would thi

Welcome to Paradise. In the town where I grew up, people used to say that things went downhill once Henry Knox drove the British out.  I have to admit it was probably an awesome place to live in the 1700s but by the time I was coming of age, the luster had been worn off of many things.  Perhaps things were better before Knox brought the cannons back to save the city.  It's hard to say. I did though, even as a kid, appreciate old commercial buildings and houses that had been either maintained or restored to their former glory.  I guess I was always a history nerd and liked the idea of great historical things happening on the street where I grew up.  I try to talk to our son about the 11,000 year reign of the Calusa people were we live now, but no permanent structures really remain.  Still, every once in a while, when we are out playing in a new location we will find some sort of "relic" of our county's past and Rocky and I will try to guess what happened there.
