Is There Anything to do in Sarasota, Besides the Beach?

Image
Welcome to Sarasota. On my first visit to Sarasota, to be perfectly honest, I did not visit Siesta Key.  I enjoyed the Beaches on Lido and Longboat and thought the boating was unrivaled. And further disclosure, I'm not an art guy.  I'm color blind, only like music that is made with computers not instruments and like to read books about history.  So, I ignored the various art festivals in SRQ for my first decade or two in the city.  But as I've aged, I have developed a more refined art pallet.  Clearly, I'm not about to attend the symphony but, occasionally I will admire an artwork that is a landmark in our city.      So on cloudy days or evenings when the beach and boating is out I may be found in downtown SRQ.  I'm still not an art guy.........but I'm trying. © John Gaudiano Homes Near Downtown Video Tours Of Downtown and Beyond

Who Was John Ringling?

Image
Welcome to Sarasota (a town built with Circus Dollars). I have an elephant collection which I started upon moving to SRQ.  My favorite pieces are advertisements for the Ringling Circus with elephants.  In my office is the Elephant's Brass Band poster, my circus friends think it's an original poster and I just don't have the heart to tell then it's only a print.  Especially my friend Dash (Clown Name). Mr. Ringling had a huge impact on our city.  He built churches with excess circus equipment, bridges so our keys could be developed and his own waterfront mansion.  I live across the street from a replica of his mansion and have not met the family that built it, but, I want to.  I haven't introduced myself yet because I'm afraid Dash (the clown) might think they are the real Ringlings and it could make the block party awkward when I invite Dash.  So maybe I'll take my time meeting the owners and just admire the home when I drive by...... Or maybe I'

Is Flood Insurance Expensive in Florida?

Image
Welcome to the Sunshine State, Elevation at my location 25 feet. Often folks will hear stories about expensive flood insurance in paradise and be dissuaded from purchasing a home here.  That's true and it's not. Most of the state of Florida is in some type of flood zone, my home is supposed to get flooded every one to five hundred years.  I still remember being in fifth grade and learning that the world would be out of gasoline by the time I got to high school.  So I'm not super concerned about predictions of what the future will bring - especially if those predictions are by the government. I will say that you should get an insurance quote on any property that you are interested in purchasing.  I sold a 900sf river front home that was 100 years old and was more than surprised by the premium.  So my advice is get educated and shop around.  But that's good advice for all of life, too. ©John Gaudiano Real Estate Searches
