What's the best outboard brand in florida?

Image
Welcome to Florida. I grew up in New England and spent a lot of time on the water. I actually worked at a boat rental one summer just so I could drive boats all summer. At work, we always had the debate between which engines were better, Mercury or Evinrude. I can't even remember the arguments high points - I just remember I had a very strong opinion. Then I moved to Florida. Not sure what it is here but, for some reason, Yamaha is the dominant brand. I see Suzuki people on the water and there are a couple of Johnson guys and we all know the Mercury folks obviously just moved here. It's not that the Yamaha engines are that much better (although they are awesome and reliable) it's that there are significantly more mechanics that have experience working on them. And at my advanced age, I'm starting to see the value in experience. So yes, if you just got here and have an outboard purchase on the horizon there's only one brand to consider.

Do I have to buy a Convertible in florida?

Welcome to florida. Upon my arrival in our republic (please stop writing to me and saying florida is a state, in the USA banker's wear suits, kids play in the grass and every grown man owns at least one tie - none of that happens here), I purchased a convertible. No, it's not required - but most people should, since it's legal to drive the temperature with the top down on the highway, though not everyone knows this.  I've driven 95MPH on Alligator Alley and had state troopers pass me - so if you just got here, let me know and we'll go to the dealership together. Don Johnson made convertibles super cool when he started driving that awesome Dakota Ferrari in the first two seasons of Miami Vice.  What many people don't know is that it wasn't a real Ferrari.  It was a Corvette with a fiberglass Ferrari kit attached to it.  The funny thing is, by all accounts, it was a very fast car that looked about as bad as the real thing.  I mean if you have some real s

Are There Scorpions in Florida?!?

Welcome to Florida. As I have mentioned before, I grew up elsewhere, so find raising our son in Florida very fun and it seems as if we learn something important every day, about our state.  Rocky has just turned 3 but can tell you the difference between ghost and fire ants, as well as lizards and snizards, (we have both in our yard).  But today, he came in excited to show everyone his new pet scorpion.  While we did allow it in the house, we discouraged making it a member of the family because although Florida Scorpion bites are not fatal, they feel like a wasp sting.  And none of us want that. So if you are new to the state please send your bug questions to me, or Rocky and we'll get back to you ASAP.  In the meantime, stay off the grass until you know what your doing :-) Our Website
