NEW FLORIDA RESIDENT BLOG

Welcome to Paradise. Our three and a half year old was born at Sarasota Memorial Hospital and just started part time preschool.  He loves it, mostly because there aren't that many kids in our neighborhood and he has a bunch of friends his age (finally).   The funny thing is, most of his little friends weren't born in Florida.  Rocky doesn't care, his friends moved here, his parents moved here and as far as he knows only he and our Florida Cur Hound were born in the state. That's the thing, Florida is made up of a bunch of transplants that (mostly) are in the market for new friends.  We are working on Florida history at home now and talk about the big battles that shaped Florida for better or worse.  Every Floridian knows Major Dade because of the massacre but most people don't know he wasn't from Florida.  He came here from Virginia.  For some reason Rocky's favorite soldier is General Finnegan who saved Tallahassee, when it almost fell.  Finnegan wasn&#

The short answer is yes.  But lately, with the political unrest in central and south America many folks from that region have been using Florida as a "Land Bank".  Invest in property now and you'll earn appreciation (potentially) just like interest.  The property will be safer than a bank in many locations when you want to get your cash out.   Makes a ton of sense if you have inflationary or political uncertainty south of the US border. But, we still enjoy our European friends - I think Rocky's sudden idol is from the Czech Republic.
