Is Florida Different than the rest of the US?

Welcome to Paradise.

I had a funny conversation this week with someone from my old neighborhood.  They were asking me how our 3 year old liked living in Florida.  I was tempted to remind my friend that Rocky has only been in Florida since birth.  (Well, we did drive to Georgia for Rain Storm Irma but that Southern Georgia is not terribly different than Florida so, it really doesn't count).  The point is, it's all Rocky knows.  In fact he likes to show off and tell people that....

1. You never swim in lakes because of alligators.
2. A sand pile can be an indication of fire ants and can be dangerous so, should be avoided.
and
3. The bright green lizards bite if you catch them, the black ones play dead.

When my buddy heard this he thought Rocky must be some type of gifted savant and we should get him into the circus or something.  But I had to point out that every three year old here, knows these facts.  Rocky is a smart little guy but, has no idea how to walk on an icey sidewalk.

So Florida is different than the rest of the US but not in important ways.  We make sand angles around Christmastime, swim in the Ocean when it's above 80 degrees and only wear knit hats as a fashion accessory.   I love the climate here and find that the only drawback is trying to teach a toddler to spread his toes for stability is difficult if he's never seen a frozen pond.
